The Role -

Amphenol Commercial Air is seeking a Development Engineer to work out of its new facility in Endicott, NY. 

The Development Engineer is responsible for new product development engineering activities, working closely with Design Engineers and Design Application Engineers to prototype and refine product designs. Hands-on role responsible for building and validating prototypes and helping drive improvements to internal development processes.

The key responsibilities of the Development Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for product development engineering activities from concept through initial design validation
  • Build test, and iterate on physical prototypes to validate design intent, form, fit, and function
  • Work closely with Design Engineers and Design Application Engineers to prototype and refine product designs based on customer and application requirements
  • Performs hands-on prototyping utilizing onsite 3D printing, machining and molding equipment; works with other departments and vendors to facilitate the build of more complex components/ assemblies
  • Collaborate with Product Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to ensure designs are manufacturable to support a smooth transition from prototype to production
  • Coordinate with outside vendors to source prototype components, tooling, and materials
  • Identify and drive improvements to internal prototyping and product development processes, working closely with Amphenol sister divisions
  • Document design iterations, test results, and lessons learned to support engineering change processes and design history
  • Support root cause analysis and design refinement based on test data and manufacturing feedback
  • Prepares and manages planned programs, with or without subordinate responsibility

Salary: $62,354 - $85,000

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Development Engineer at Amphenol Commercial Air:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience), with +1 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in product development and prototyping
  • Experience with CAD (Creo or equivalent) and PDM systems (Windchill or equivalent) preferred
  • Practical experience with 3D printing/additive manufacturing and basic machining is required
  • Experience with electrical connectors or related aerospace products is preferred
  • Experience with component molding is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel < 10% of the time
  • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Use of a computer from 1 to 8 hours a day
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds
  • Possible travel domestic or overseas
