
The Role
Amphenol Aerospace Operations is seeking a Design Engineer (Filters) to work out of its state-of-the-art facility in Sidney, NY.
The Design Engineer (Filters) will be responsible for the design of electrical filter connectors; will provide design guidance for the development of mechanical interconnect components, and specification of electrical devices used in EMI filter and Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) devices
The key responsibilities of this Design Engineer (Filters) include, but are not limited to:
- Prepares designs, drawings, and specifications, and assists in the generation of layouts
- Interfaces with other departments to support the manufacturing and testing of samples (production testing and troubleshooting mechanical/ electrical failures)
- Interfaces with customers and vendors to assure conformance to customer specifications
- Coordinates the manufacturing of customer prototypes
- Troubleshooting electrical faults in connector assemblies
- Maintains working knowledge of aerospace standards and testing for insertion loss, capacitance, isolation resistance, and inductance as it relates to EMI filter networks and Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) devices
- Performs the functions required to process estimate requests and marketing product requests
- Reviews customer documents for compliance with Amphenol Aerospace Operations (AAO) documents and if necessary, prepares new designs to conform to these documents
- Keeps supervision informed of status of all activities on a periodic basis
- Works closely with the Business Development Manager and Product Managers of various business unit

Salary: $62,354 - $85,000
The Person
The key skills and qualities of a Design Engineer (Filters) at Amphenol Aerospace Operations:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design or design engineering preferred but not required.
- Understanding of electrical component design including capacitors, inductors, MOV’s, Zener/Rectifier Diodes, and other TVS devices
- Familiarity with soldering processes and solder joint failure modes
- Experience with PTC Creo, Windchill, P-Spice, or similar electrical simulation software is preferred but not required
- Familiarity with industry standards such as DO-160, MIL-DTL-38999, MIL-DTL-26482, MIL-DTL-83723, and EIA 364 testing specifications preferred but not required
- Communications with customers, marketing, manufacturing, quality, process, purchasing, and experimental personnel
- Preparation and checking of drawings and process changes
- Ability to work from either written or oral instructions with minimum supervision
- Collaborative work with colleagues on design engineering team to accomplish required tasks to support the interests of the business
- Ability to maintain dedicated focus to intricate details of engineering design
- Ability to make drawings for production and customers
- Prolonged periods of sitting and typing
- Use of a computer from 1 to 8 hours per day
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds
- Ability to work in office, manufacturing, and test lab environments
- Willingness to contribute extra effort in support of critical business opportunities
- Travel as necessary (air and car), up to 10%
- Willingness and ability to abide by all EHS protocols in manufacturing and test lab environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills
